Welcome to today’s episode of my “JAMB Doctor Series”, where I will be discussing the JAMB Cut Off Mark for all schools (Universities, Polytechnics & Colleges of Education) and various courses such as Medicine and Surgery, Pharmacy, Accounting, Law, and more. Stay tuned!

Understanding the Importance of JAMB Scores and Cut Off Marks

One of the major determinants of whether a student will be admitted to a particular University is their performance in the JAMB examination, Post UTME score, or O’level result aggregates. The higher your JAMB score, the higher your chances of gaining admission. However, there is a minimum mark you must score in JAMB to be eligible to participate in the Post UTME exam conducted by your school of choice.

Setting JAMB Cut Off Marks for Institutions

Some Universities prefer to set their JAMB Cut off mark as low as possible, especially those that are not competitive, to accommodate as many students as they can. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) holds a meeting with all schools represented to decide the minimum cut off mark for that year. This meeting is called the “JAMB’s Policy meeting”. The general minimum cut off mark for all Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education is determined based on the overall performance of students in the UTME exam.

JAMB Cut Off Mark for 2023: Is It Out?

No, the JAMB cut off mark for 2023 is not officially out. The Board has yet to hold its annual policy meeting where the general minimum cut off mark is decided. The cut off mark for the 2022/2023 admission exercise may differ from this year’s JAMB (2023/2024 admission).

Understanding JAMB Cut Off Marks

The “Cut Off Mark” refers to the minimum score one is allowed to achieve before being eligible to participate in a particular program. In the context of JAMB, it is the minimum score students must achieve before being allowed to participate in the Post UTME of their chosen school.

For the 2022/2023 admission exercise, the assigned cut off marks for various institutions are as follows:

Institutions Cut Off Mark
Universities (Federal, State, and Private) 140
Polytechnics 100
Colleges of Education 100

JAMB Cut Off Mark for Universities

The JAMB’s general minimum cut off mark for all Universities in Nigeria for the 2022/2023 admission exercise is 140. Most federal Universities, like the University of Benin (UNIBEN) and the University of Ibadan (UI), set their cut off mark at 200 for all courses. Some state universities like Ambrose Alli University (AAU) and Delta State University (DELSU) prefer to stick with JAMB’s minimum score of 140. Most private universities adhere to the minimum cut off mark of 140.

JAMB Cut Off Mark for Courses like Medicine, International Relations, and Pharmacy

After understanding the general JAMB cut off marks for various institutions, it’s essential to look at specific courses and their cut off marks. These cut off marks are usually determined by individual institutions based on various factors, including the competitiveness of the course and the performance of students in the UTME and Post UTME exams.

What is the lowest score in JAMB?

Medicine and Surgery

The cut off marks for Medicine and Surgery vary depending on the institution. Some of the top universities, like the University of Ibadan (UI) and the University of Lagos (UNILAG), have a cut off mark of 200 or even higher for this course. However, some state universities may set their cut off marks slightly lower. Scoring high in JAMB and Post UTME exams will significantly increase your chances of getting admitted into a Medicine and Surgery program.

International Relations

The cut off marks for International Relations also vary depending on the university you choose. Generally, the cut off marks for this course can range from 180 to 200, with competitive universities having higher cut off marks. To be on the safe side, aim for a higher JAMB and Post UTME score to increase your chances of getting admitted into an International Relations program.

Pharmacy

Pharmacy is another competitive course, and its cut off marks vary among institutions. As with Medicine and Surgery, top universities like the University of Ibadan (UI) and the University of Lagos (UNILAG) may set a higher cut off mark for Pharmacy, around 200. However, some state universities may have slightly lower cut off marks. Again, scoring high in JAMB and Post UTME exams is essential to secure admission into a Pharmacy program.

In Conclusion

The cut off marks for JAMB 2023 have not been officially released yet, as the annual policy meeting has not taken place. However, it’s crucial to prepare well for the UTME and Post UTME exams to score high and increase your chances of getting admitted into your desired course and institution. The cut off marks for specific courses may vary depending on the institution, so research your preferred universities and their requirements to ensure you meet the cut off marks. Good luck with your JAMB 2023 journey!
